What first inspired you to start playing music, and how did you choose piano as your instrument?

Like many children, I began piano lessons at the age of six, and it was a path my parents chose for me. Music was already a familiar part of my life, as my mother is a piano teacher. As I grew older, I was increasingly exposed to great music and had the opportunity to attend recitals and concerts, which deepened my appreciation. Over time, I realized I wanted to be part of this world. To me, music is a unique blend of athleticism, poetry, and dance — truly magnificent.

One of the most formative experiences I remember was seeing Madam Butterfly by Puccini for the first time. I was completely breathless; it felt like an experience beyond words. To this day, it remains one of my favorite performances.

Do you have a favorite performance memory or musical moment that stands out from your career so far?

Every time I step on stage, it feels like a new journey — one where I seek to become completely immersed in the music. As performers, we carry the responsibility of honoring the composer’s vision with honesty and integrity, yet at the same time, we bring our own voice, our own soul, into every note. It becomes a living, breathing experience — something shared between the music, the performer, and the audience.

As for my students’ performances, they are just as inspiring to me. Each one is a moment of transformation, where you can see their confidence, expression, and love for music blossom. Watching them grow and discover their own artistic voice is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

What do you love most about teaching, and what’s one thing you hope every student takes away from their lessons with you?

I truly enjoy every moment of teaching. It brings me great happiness to open the door for my students to this magical world of music. Of course, I understand that not all of them will pursue a career in music, but what they gain goes far beyond that. Through music, they develop an awareness of their body, coordination between the brain, eyes, hands, and the whole body, and a deeper sense of focus and discipline.

They also learn how to express emotions without words, using music as their voice. My hope is that they enjoy every lesson and carry that love with them. Even if they choose a different path, perhaps they will become lifelong music lovers — and one day, supportive and appreciative parents who value the arts.

If you could play or perform with any musician — past or present — who would it be, and why?

That is a difficult question, as I have been fortunate to perform with many musicians and to admire so many artists. From the past, I deeply love Schubert and Bach, and I often find myself wondering what kind of teachers and performers they were.

Among more recent artists, I greatly admire the performances of Richter and Ashkenazy. As for contemporary performers, I especially appreciate Martha Argerich and Nikolai Lugansky.

When you’re not teaching or performing, how do you like to spend your time outside of music?

I love cooking and baking French pastry, and these are two of my favorite hobbies outside of music. I really enjoy the process of creating something from simple ingredients and turning it into something beautiful and meaningful, much like in music. Baking especially brings me joy because it requires both precision and creativity, and it always feels rewarding to share the results with others.

Of course, I also love spending time with my two cats, Panbeh and Knightly. They bring a lot of warmth into my daily life, and being with them is both comforting.

In addition, I enjoy walking and hiking whenever I have the chance. Being in nature helps me clear my mind, recharge my energy, and find inspiration away from the busy pace of everyday life.
